The National Association of Certified Home Inspectors (NACHI)
is the world’s largest most elite home inspection association.
A non-profit organization with members in all 50 states and 21
countries, NACHI is the international home of over 9400 inspectors
worldwide. NACHI’s membership increases steadily at the rate of
300 per month on average.
NACHI has over 55 local chapters in the U.S. with more forming
at the rate of two per week. NACHI is present at or sponsors nearly
every major real estate and home inspection industry event in
the U.S. has a yearly convention, and has free home inspection
training seminars and courses throughout the U.S.
NACHI’s sister organization InterNACHI has members in a dozen
countries. NACHI’s Singapore Chapter has members from Malaysia,
Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines and Hong Kong. There are over
200 Canadian members of NACHI.
NACHI recently partnered with FEMA (Federal Emergency Management
Administration) to distribute smoke detectors and fire safety
literature using NACHI home inspectors. The NACHI Foundation's
public service announcements play some 7,000 times a month on
radio stations across North America.
NACHI’s Standards of Practice is now the industry standard. This
new version is by far the largest, most comprehensive set of guidelines
available to inspectors. Twelve years in the making, and over
20 pages long, this latest revision elevates NACHI's Standards
of Practice to the nation's definitive standard for the professional
home inspection industry.
NACHI promotes a high standard of professionalism, business ethics,
and inspection procedures with its Code of Ethics. NACHI’s Continuing
Education, free hands-on training, free online inspection courses,
and free inspection video library all help keep our members the
best they can be.
Operating many hundreds of websites, NACHI reaches millions
of consumers, inspectors, and REALTORs every month. Our 5,000+
page flagship site, nachi.org, receives over 5 million hits per
month alone and is now one of the internets most popular sites
enjoyed by over 58,000 unique visitors a month.
NACHI hosts the inspection industries largest photo inspection
message board with over 40,000 topics integrated into a web gallery.
Many government officials and state regulators use NACHI’s open
message board to interact with the home inspection industry because
it is un-moderated and freedom of speech is protected.
Recently NACHI worked with investigators from Washington and
Illinois in uncovering a home inspection insurance fraud. Washington
Insurance Commissioner’s investigator spoke at our Spokane Chapter
meeting and credited NACHI.
NACHI dominates the internet operating 1,400 websites with 23,000
more covert websites planned for this year. Each of these operations
is many hundreds of times as active as any competing site on the
internet. NACHI has its own Canadian and Singapore websites, its
own local Chapter websites, owns its own dedicated servers in
4 countries, owns the Real Estate Referral Network, and owns FindAnInspector.US
and InspectorSEEK.com the nation’s largest inspector search engines.
NACHI has hundreds of inspector vendor relationships each providing
NACHI discounts on everything from reporting systems to printer
ink. NACHI has negotiated discounts for its members on laboratory
services, books, courses, videos, tools, mold training, wood infestation
training, even printer ink. NACHI maintains integrity by cutting
no side deals and accepting no paid advertising... not so much
as a banner ad.
NACHI’s Standards of Practice Committee, Code of Ethics Committee,
Continuing Education Committee, and other committee seats are
filled by inspectors from over 30 different states and Canadian
provinces. NACHI has developed and offers its own compliance statements,
negligent referral agreements, and pre-inspection agreements.
NACHI authors and distributes its own email newsletter for REALTORs
and hosts an online advice column for inspectors. NACHI posts
its articles in 3 different languages: English, Spanish, and Korean
and recently contracted to create mirror sites in 12 languages.
NACHI worked with many Error and Omissions insurance companies
and is currently in charge of gathering information via a survey
from the entire inspection industry and sending it to inspection
E&O underwriters. FREA, the inspection industry’s foremost
insurer gives NACHI members a 10% discount.
Senator Tom Buford, running for U.S. Congress, recently announced
his intentions to put forth a law requiring home inspection licensing
boards to include at least one member of NACHI.
NACHI keeps track of and alerts the industry to manufacturer
recalls, meetings, industry updates and newsbreaks. NACHI offers
free link exchange, free email accounts, and websites.
NACHI and a Philadelphia law firm operate the NACHI Arbitration
Service to handle consumer complaints against home inspectors
and NACHI is developing a consumer recovery fund.
NACHI recently took a bold step in Loveland, Colorado to expand
its uncertified inspector complaint handling system in preparation
of our plan to direct those consumer complaints to the local legislators
that put forth any anti-consumer/NACHI licensing/registration
regulation.
NACHI funds the Consumer Home Inspection Hotline (610) 917-8000
which helps the home buying public find certified inspectors.
NACHI funds www.BribeWatch.org, a consumer advocacy group which
reports suspected corruption in home inspection and construction
legislation.
NACHI is associated with the NACHI Foundation a separate Maryland
based registered charity which has relief fund for victims of
licensed but uncertified inspectors.
NACHI offers free ride-a-longs to new inspectors and has a Report
Review Committee which offers free report critiquing.
